A 49-year-old suspect nabbed for cases including attempted murder and possession of unlicensed firearm

A 49-year-old male suspect was arrested by members of Burgersfort SAPS and Sekhukhune District following positive leads about the suspect involved in an attempted murder case at Mphanama Village.

According to reports, on Tuesday, 30 January 2024, the suspect and victim were in a group of people who were engaging in illegal gambling activities, when the suspect pulled out a firearm and shot at the victim.

The victim was rushed to local the hospital, and on Wednesday, 31 January 2024, he opened a case. Police traced the suspect, and he was arrested in the early hours of Thursday, 01 February 2024. During the arrest, he was found in possession of two unlicensed firearms: 9mm pistol with 06x ammunition and 01x rifle with 10 ammunition.

The Acting Provincial Commissioner of Limpopo SAPS Major General Jan Scheepers has praised the operational team for ensuring that the suspect was arrested and firearms removed from wrong hands.

The suspect will appear before Sekhukhune Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 02 February 2024.

The Police investigations are continuing.
