Bar patron killed during a robbery in Phoenix

A 46 year old man was killed in a shootout with robbers at a bar in Phoenix – KZN during the early hours of this morning.

The Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) Phoenix Operations Centre received a call for assistance at approximately 01:02. On arrival, Reaction Officers established that four suspects entered the bar and held up employees and patrons.

The deceased drew his firearm and shot one of the suspects. A second suspect fired a volley of shots which struck the man in his head and body. He was robbed of his firearm.

The injured suspect dragged himself to an awaiting white Suzuki (model & registration unknown) which sped off in an unknown direction.

The deceased is a resident of Johannesburg – Gauteng. He was celebrating a friend’s birthday at the time of the incident.

Several spent 9mm cartridges were recovered at the scene.
