Thirty-nine undocumented foreign nationals who are also suspected to be illegal miners arrested

An integrated Operation Vala Umgodi continued in Gauteng as multidisciplinary forces that include South African Police Service and South African National Defence Force, joint with other law enforcement agencies, ascended on Benoni, Ekurhuleni District on Friday, 09 February 2024, and dismantled an illegal mining operation.

Thirty-nine undocumented foreign nationals who are also suspected to illegal miners were arrested.

Some of the suspects will be charged with possession of explosives.

The multidisciplinary team also confiscated tools used for illegal mining.
