Three arrested for attempted murder, drugs and bribery in Thabong

Anti Gang unit members hard at work in Welkom arrest one for drugs, boyfriend and girlfriend wanted on an attempted murder charge and unlawful possession of ammunition.

In the early hours of 08 March 2024, members of Anti-Gang Unit traced and arrested a male suspect wanted for attempted murder and pointing of firearm cases originating from a shooting incident at a tavern in Thabong last month.

The suspect 27-years-old was arrested at a shared residence in Thabong that belongs to his girlfriend. A search of the premises was conducted and 10 rounds of a .38 special firearm were found and seized. The 23-year-old girlfriend was also arrested and charged with illegal possession of ammunition.

On 8 March 2024 members of Welkom Anti-Gang Unit received an intelligence led information about a house in Thabong used in drug dealings.

Members rushed to the identified house and 1 male was arrested for possession of drugs after packets of crystal meth, CAT, tablets of mandrax as well as an undisclosed amount of cash were found during the search.

The 41-year-old suspect attempted to bribe police officials and an additional charge of bribery was added.

All three suspects will appear in the Welkom Magistrate court soon.
