Anti-Smuggling team commended for their commitment and diligence throughout an anti-smuggling operation

The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, has commended the Anti-Smuggling team for their commitment and diligence throughout an anti-smuggling operation.

Information was received about alleged vehicle smugglers driving a possible stolen motor vehicle, a Toyota Fortuner 2.8 valued at R900 000, en route to smuggle a vehicle from Gauteng to Malawi through the Beitbridge border post.

The operational team followed up on information, and the motor vehicle was spotted on the R519 Bergnek Road. An attempt to stop the said vehicle failed, and a high-speed chase ensued until the motor vehicle was intercepted near Lunds farms in the Westenburg policing area.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the motor vehicle was reported stolen at Bedfordview, Gauteng Province, on Sunday 24 March 2024.

Two male suspects, between the ages of 33 and 36, were arrested and charged with possession of a presumed motor vehicle and Contravention of the Immigration Act.

The duo will appear before Polokwane Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, 28 March 2024.

The police investigation is still continuing.
