LEAP officers on patrol in the Lavenderhill area on Wednesday evening, observed three persons walking defiantly down Military Rd at around 19h45. Approaching the trio in order to inquire on their intentions, the three suspects instead took of running.
Law Enforcement officers took up the chase but as the lead closed, one of the suspects was seen throwing an onject into a yard of a house they passed.
Eventually the suspect was subdued and officers returned to the residence where the perpetrator had attempted to discard the item. Inside the yard, the item was discovered to be a fully loaded, Arminius 38 Special revolver.
The suspect was transported to Steenberg SAPS and arrested for being in possession of a prohibited firearm. The Firearms Control Act makes it unlawful for any person to be in possession of a firearm that has had its serial number tampered with or removed.
