A man was seriously injured in a shooting incident in Hazelmere

A man was shot in the abdomen for allegedly fraternising with a female in Hazelmere – KZN.

The Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) Operations Centre received a call for assistance.

Reaction Officers were immediately dispatched and on arrival met with members of the community.

It was established that a male was shot in his home but was expedited privately to hospital prior to the arrival of First Responders. According residents, the critically injured male was patronising a bar in the area.

He was asked to leave by the bartender after he started fraternising with a female. This morning, a man arrived at his residence and shot the victim. Two spent 9mm cartridges were recovered.

Reaction Officers received information that the suspect also resides in the area. Officers obtained his location and confronted him. He was in possession of a licensed Girsan 9mm pistol. He explained that he did approach the victim and questioned him regarding his behavior at the bar.

He alleged that the victim produced a sjambok and attempted to whip him. He thereafter fired two shots, one of which struck the victim in the abdomen. He then fled the scene. His relationship with the female was not established.

The suspect was placed under arrest and handed over to the Verulam SAPS.
