Suspects in custody for the possession of drugs and a prohibited firearm and ammunition

Police members in the Western Cape remain committed to eradicate the streets of prohibited firearms and ammunition through the arrests of suspects who were found in possession of unlicensed firearms and drugs in isolated incidents on Thursday 08 May 2025

Police members attached to Public Order Policing in the Western Cape deployed in the Saldanha Bay policing precinct, were busy with patrols when they responded to information of drug dealing. The members tactically approached a residence in Harder Street and searched the entire premises including the occupants, resulting in the discovery of 52 sachets filled with methamphetamine and a small quantity of mandrax tablets. They detained a 35 year old man for the possession of drugs.

In an unrelated intervention police members conducted stop and search operations in Grabouw in the Overberg District at about 14:00 in Main Road when they noticed a suspicious man who attempted to evade them. The police members apprehended the man, searched him and in the process found in his possession a small quantity of methamphetamine. The 40 year old man faces a charge of possession of drugs.

Meanwhile Mitchells Plain, police members focussed on high visibility patrols to quell ongoing gang violence in hotspot areas when they entered a premises in Pikkewyn Street in Rocklands and ensued with a search. They recovered a pistol hidden on the premises for which they detained a 26 year old man who is affiliated to a known gang grouping for the possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition.

Once charged, the suspects are expected to make their respective court appearances in the Vredenburg, Grabouw and Mitchells Plain Magistrates’ courts on the mentioned charges.
