Continued efforts to fight gang violence in the Mitchell’s Plain policing precinct yielded success when police members arrested a suspect for the illegal possession of a firearm on Sunday, 18 May 2025.
Members of Mitchell’s Plain police were conducting stop and search operations in the Tafelsig area due to ongoing shooting when they stopped and search an adult male who tried to evade the police. They found a firearm with 22 rounds of ammunition in his possession and he was arrested for the possession thereof.
In an unrelated matter, members of Malmesbury police followed up information about a suspect who is wanted for attempted murder and searched the identified premises in Chatsworth. The members arrested the suspect fitting the description and upon further search of the premises they found a revolver without a serial number with 35 rounds of ammunition hidden under the mattress in the Wendy house. A 21-year-old suspect was arrested for the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
The suspects are due to make their respective court appearances in the Mitchell’s Plain and Malmesbury Magistrates’ Courts once they have been charged.
