Police are on the hunt for suspects following a house robbery on a farm near Kestell

Police in the Free State have launched a manhunt for three suspects following a house robbery that occurred on a farm outside Kestell.

On Wednesday, 26 June 2025 at approximately 19:30, a 70-year-old male victim was attacked at his home on Bakewell Farm, Kestell. The incident was reported to police in the early hours of 27 June 2025.

According to reports, the victim had just returned from town and entered his house when he was ambushed by three unknown African males wearing masks and gloves. The suspects struck him over the head with a hard object and tied his hands. They spoke both Sesotho and Afrikaans and demanded cash and access to his safe.

The suspects managed to steal several items including firearms, cellphones, cash, clothing, electronic appliances, groceries, and liquor. The stolen items were loaded into the victim’s white Toyota Hilux parked outside. While the suspects continued to ransack the house, the victim managed to free himself, escape through a window and run to a neighbouring farm for help. He sustained head injuries and received medical attention.

Police were contacted and a swift response followed. Some of the stolen items, including a firearm, were later recovered from the back of the victim’s vehicle. The suspects fled the scene and remain at large.

Specialised units and various role players were activated and the scene was processed. A case of house robbery has been opened for investigation.

The investigation is ongoing, and police appeal to anyone who may have information that could lead to the arrest of the suspects to contact Colonel Ben Bolsiek on 082 466 8530, the nearest police station or call Crime Stop at 08600 10111. Information can be provided anonymously on the MySAPS App.
