OR Tambo police intensify Operation Shanela 2

The OR Tambo police continue to intensify Operation Shanela 2 in the District, putting more emphasis on identified stubborn crimes like stock theft. Six sheep with six lambs suspected to be stolen in Dosi locality – Mthatha were recovered and two suspects aged 27 and 28 arrested on Saturday, 12 July 2025 at about 00:30.

Information was received about a Nissan Hardbody vehicle transporting sheep and police quickly responded and apprehended two male suspects. The vehicle used in the commission of crime has since been impounded. In three unrelated incidents in Lusikisiki, Libode and Mqanduli police recovered three unlicensed firearms with ammunition from 10 July to 12 July 2025.

All the arrested suspects aged between 27 and 41 will appear before different Magistrates’ Courts respectively facing charges ranging from possession of suspected stolen stock to unlawful possession of unlicensed firearms. Firearms are subject to ballistic tests to determine if they had not been used in the commission of crime before.
