Seven suspects arrested for truck hijacking in Delmas

The Police made a significant breakthrough and apprehended seven suspects in Delmas during a coordinated operation in the early hours of today. These individuals are alleged to have been involved in truck hijackings in various places including in the area of Nigel (in Gauteng Province).

Notably, one of the truck hijacking incidents occurred on Sunday, 13 July 2025, which prompted an intensive investigation, leading to the arrest of these suspects. This operation depicts Police’s unwavering commitment to tackling organized crime, including truck hijacking which has negative implications to the economy of the country. The truck hijacking were often reported on the border areas between Mpumalanga and Gauteng.

The successful operation was executed by a diverse team of dedicated officers, including the Anti-Hijacking Team, the Middelburg Tactical Response Team (TRT), Witbank SAPS, Delmas SAPS, the PIU from Gauteng, the SAPS Nkangala District Office, and the Murder and Robbery Unit from Gauteng Province. Their collaborative efforts exemplify the strength and effectiveness of cooperation in law enforcement.

During the operation, law enforcement officials seized a grey BMW. The Police cannot rule out the possibility of additional charges being laid regarding other related truck hijacking incidents that may have occurred elsewhere.

The suspects are expected to appear in court soon, where they will face charges related to their alleged criminal activities.

Meanwhile the Acting Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Major General (Dr) Zeph Mkhwanazi, commended the collaborative efforts of all units involved in this operation: “We are delighted by the unity displayed by members of the team, coming from various SAPS units with the provinces of Mpumalanga and Gauteng. What matters most is to tackle crime head-on, and the operation is a testament to our collective resolve to enhance safety in our communities.”
