Nine notorious suspects arrested after a spate of business robberies committed at the Shoprite Usave stores in the Mopani District

The SAPS members of Mopani Tracking Team, Mokwakwaila Detectives, Mopani High Way Patrol, Murder and Robbery, and Bolobedu Vispol (Off duty member) arrested nine notorious suspects after a spate of business robberies committed at the Shoprite Usave stores in the Mopani District, respectively, in Giyani, Mokwakwaila and Letsitele Policing areas.

On Thursday, 07 August 2025, at around 09:00, a group of armed suspects committed a business robbery, wherein they robbed the store of an undisclosed amount of money and shot one of the customers before they fled the scene. Operation was swiftly activated, whilst, at the scene, information was received about a business robbery on progress at Usave in Xihoko Village, Letsitele Policing area. The team responded, and the described vehicle, a silver Suzuki, was spotted at a gravel road between Ramodumo and Rajeke Villages. A chase ensued until the suspects abandoned the gateway vehicle and fled on foot. Police recovered the vehicle with a variety of items believed to be part of the goods stolen during the robberies.

Subsequent to the incident, Police received information that led the team to Skhiming Village, in Giyani Policing area, which resulted in the arrest of five suspects (one female and four males) aged between 35 and 50, a recovery of two unlicensed firearms, seven ammunition and an undisclosed amount of money.

Further information, led the team to another location, at Abel Village, in Mokwakwaila Policing area, whereby, two suspects hailing from Gauteng province, were found in possession of one unlicensed firearm, thirty-three ammunition and an undisclosed amount of money in coins and cellphones. They were arrested for unlawful possession of firearm, ammunition, and possession of suspected stolen property.

The following day, on Friday, 08 August 2025, at around 04:00, two more suspects were again arrested at Abel Village for a business robbery incident that occurred during May 2025 at Shoprite Usave store.

These operations resulted in the arrest of nine suspects aged between 33 and 50 for charges of unlawful possession of firearms, ammunition, possession of suspected stolen property and business robbery. They were detained at Giyani and Bolobedu SAPS.

The suspects will soon appear before the local Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 11 August 2025.

Police are continuing with investigating for possible connections to other crimes in the province.

The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General, Thembi Hadebe commended the officers for their dedication. “This is commendable effort that cannot pass without a praise. Keep doing well and ensure that the citizens of this province are protected along with their property,” said Lieutenant General Hadebe.

Investigations are continuing.
