Suspect arrested for illegal activities linked to economic infrastructure crimes

In the early hours of Monday morning, Durban Metro Police Service, together with law enforcement partners, conducted a joint intelligence-driven operation in the Clairwood area targeting illegal activities linked to economic infrastructure crimes.
The operation, which ran from 03h45 until 14h00, led to the identification and closure of an illegal scrapyard. One suspect was arrested, and a number of valuable exhibits were recovered.
Recovered Exhibits Include:
1 x EThekwini Municipality street light
6kg of burnt copper cables
1 x large industrial scale
1 x register book of transactions
1 x cellphone used for illegal transactions
Charges faced by the suspect:
Tampering with economic infrastructure
Contravention of relevant criminal statutes (Sections 36, 37, 32)
Operating without registration as a second-hand goods dealer
The arrested suspect will appear in court shortly to face the above charges.
