On 20 August 2025, Durban Metro Police Service units (Drug Team, Trio Crimes and Business Forum Task Team), conducted an intelligence-driven operation targeting a well-known drug syndicate in Shallcross, Chatsworth.
During the operation, officers recovered a significant quantity of Stilpane syrup containing Codeine, which was being stored inside a motor vehicle. Stilpane syrup is often mixed with cooldrinks to make the dangerous drink known as “LEAN”, which gives users a narcotic high.
Exhibits seized:
1. 258 x 100ml Stilpane syrup bottles
2. 1 x motor vehicle used to store and transport the goods
3. Estimated total value: R119,548,00
The suspect was arrested and charged in terms of the Medicines and Related Substances Control Act 101 of 1965.
