A well planned crime intelligence operation led to the arrest of a 28-year-old male for the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition in Lwandle on Thursday, 21 August 2025.
Police members attached to the Tactical Response Team acted on intelligence received about an illegal firearm being kept at an address situated in Vukayi Street, Lwandle. They immediately operationalised the intelligence and tactically approached the address where they ensued with a search during which they found an unlicensed firearm with three magazines and an assortment of ammunition hidden under a mattress in the room.
The suspect could not provide a license, and he was immediately arrested. The firearm will be sent for ballistic testing to determine whether it was used in the commission of crime.
The suspect is due to appear in the Strand Magistrates’ Court once charged.
