The KwaZulu-Natal women-led ‘Operation Basadi’ is underway at the uMgungundlovu District

The multidisciplinary operation, which showcases women power and ability to safeguard residents of KwaZulu-Natal has thus far resulted in the recovery of five firearms and the arrest of five suspects.

The Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) detectives have thus far arrested 11 suspects for rape cases, one of them was wanted for two cases of rape and one of attempted murder. Five suspects who were wanted for violent crimes including murder were also traced and arrested.

Operation Basadi shows women empowerment in the South African Police Service. For the duration of the operation which run until Friday night, female police officers will continue to trace wanted suspects, conduct compliance inspections at liquor outlets, raid outlets selling counterfeit goods, as well as roadblocks where several unroadworthy vehicles have already been impounded and motorists fined. With eyes in the skies and on the ground, women in blue the streets of Pietermaritzburg, Mountain Rise and Plessislaer and safer.
