The police in Thohoyandou under Vhembe District have launched a massive manhunt for an awaiting-trial prisoner, Muluvhu Gumani (34), who allegedly escaped from lawful custody on Monday, 25 August 2025, at around 08:50.
The suspect was initially arrested for robbery with a weapon other than a firearm. Preliminary reports suggest that the police were transporting thirteen awaiting-trial prisoners to the Thohoyandou Magistrate’s Court, and while on their way, at a robot intersection, one of the suspects allegedly forced the police vehicle door open and fled on foot.
We are appealing to members of the community not to attempt to apprehend the suspect for their own safety.
