On Tuesday 26 August 2025 at 11:30, the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) Intervention Unit Officers, in conjuction with other stakeholders, intercepted two (2) male suspects aged forty-six (46) and forty-eight (48) years in the Benoni area.
Following an ongoing investigation about the two (2) individuals who were wanted for multiple hijackings, Officers proceeded to initiate a lookout for the suspects and the vehicles used to commit the crime, being a silver Honda and white Toyota Quantum.
Officers spotted the vehicles on Kingsway Road, where they tactically stopped the vehicles and conducted a search. During the search a black and silver 9mm firearm with a defaced serial number, seven (7) live rounds of ammunition and implements used for car breaking, were found in the vehicles.
The duo was immediately arrested and detained at Benoni Police Station, facing charges of possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition, and car breaking implements. They are expected to appear in the relevant Magistrate’s court soon.
