On Thursday, 28 August 2025, the South African Police Service (SAPS) in Tshwane intensified its crime-combating efforts through the continued rollout of #OperationShanela in Sinoville and Pretoria-Moot.
The operation, led by the District Commissioner of Tshwane, Major-General Samuel Thine, was meticulously planned and executed, resulting in the arrest of 377 suspects for various criminal offences.
Detectives successfully tracked and arrested 314 wanted suspects, including, 2 for murder, 3 for attempted murder, 7 for armed robbery and 5 for rape.
A multi-stakeholder roadblock was conducted in Pretoria-Moot, with multidisciplinary teams executing coordinated actions across the precincts. These efforts led to the detention of 59 illegal immigrants, who are being processed for court appearances and possible deportation. One additional suspect was arrested and fined for employing illegal immigrants.
Police conducted patrols at 71 high-crime locations and premises, resulting in the arrest of two suspects for drug-related offences. Officers seized 15 sachets containing illegal substances and an undisclosed amount of cash.
Traffic officers continued its critical support, issuing 115 AARTO infringement notices amounting to R47 600.00, while 11 vehicles were impounded for violations of the Road Traffic Act. Tshwane
Metro Police Department (TMPD) by-law officers issued fines totalling R2 500.00 for various by-law infringements.
As part of liquor compliance operations, 22 liquor outlets were inspected. One outlet was shut down for non-compliance with the Liquor Act, and approximately 30 570 ml of alcohol was confiscated.
Additionally, 13 second-hand goods dealers were inspected, with 8 found non-compliant with the Second-Hand Goods Act and issued fines amounting to R100 000.00.
