Firearm Stolen From Deceased Policeman: Tea Estate – KZN

A State Baretta 92FS pistol with serial no. P89936Z & thirty (30) 9mm rounds belonging to a policeman killed in a collision in Inanda – Tea Estate in KZN earlier today (Saturday) has been stolen from the scene.

Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) responded to the accident at 17:33 and found that two (2) vehicles had collided while traveling in opposite directions. One (1) person was found deceased and was clad in full police regulation uniform. The occupants of the second vehicle were also injured.

Reaction officers established that the deceased was a Sergeant based at King Shaka International Airport (KSIA). Information was received that prior to first responders arriving on the scene a large crowd had gathered around the vehicles. Two (2) Pakistani Nationals were seen reaching into the vehicle and then walking towards a white VW Caddy. It is believed that the firearm was stolen by the foreign nationals while the policeman lay deceased on the drivers seat. It could not be confirmed if they left the scene before the Officers arrived to attend to the Culpable Homicide.

This information was provided by witnesses on scene.

The RUSA Body Cam Policy require every Reaction Officer to switch on their devices prior to arriving on the scene of any emergency and keep the cameras recording for the full duration. Vehicle fitted Dash Cams & Body Cams has captured all vehicles leaving the vicinity and bystanders at the scene of the collision.

The footage will be handed over to Detectives who will be investigating the Theft of the Firearm.
