Durban Metro Police Tracing Unit, working jointly with Crime Intelligence, PES Task Team, and Investigations, conducted intelligence-driven operations in the Umlazi policing areas.
Incident 1 – Umlazi (Glebelands area)
Officers acted on information regarding wanted suspects linked to serious crimes. Upon searching a residence, a homemade .38 revolver with two live rounds of ammunition was recovered. Two cellphones were also seized as exhibits. The suspect was arrested and handed over to SAPS Umlazi for further processing and will face charges including Murder, Attempted Murder, House Robbery, and Unlawful Possession of Firearm and Ammunition. The firearm is believed to be linked to an ongoing murder case.
Incident 2 – Ngonyameni, Umlazi
In a separate operation, the team targeted illegal firearms in the Ngonyameni area. During the search of a residence, a black shotgun with its serial number filed off was recovered. The suspect was arrested and handed over to SAPS Bhekithemba for further investigation and processing.
