Police search for 65-year-old Mpumalanga man who went missing in Limpopo

POLOKWANE – The Police in Haenertsburg under Mopani District have launched a search operation for a missing person, Andries John Wati (65), originally from MP Stream, Thulamahashe in Mpumalanga, who went missing in Limpopo.

According to reports, on Thursday, 08 May 2025 at about 14:00, the missing man allegedly left home carrying a bag of clothes without informing his family of his destination. He never returned home thereafter.

On 18 August 2025, the complainant, who is the missing man’s wife, was informed by their son that members of the ZCC Church in Limpopo were in possession of her husband’s passport and funeral policy book. However, the whereabouts of her husband remained unknown.

Later that month, the complainant visited the ZCC Church at Boyne to seek further clarity. She was informed that her husband’s documents had been discovered on top of the Wolksburg Mountain at a farm by a herdsman, who subsequently handed them to ZCC officials at Ga-Molepo village in an attempt to trace the family.

On Tuesday, 02 September 2025, the complainant officially reported her husband missing at Haenertsburg SAPS.

A joint search operation was immediately launched involving Haenertsburg police officers, family members, farm workers, and ZCC members. Despite these efforts, Mr Wati has not yet been found. The search has since been intensified with the involvement of additional role players, including the Mpumalanga and Limpopo K9 Units, the SAPS Search and Rescue Unit, Drone pilot and the Mopani Tracking Team.
