A compliance inspection under #Operationshanela2 at a scrap metal dealer in Oranjesig, Bloemfontein, yielded positive results. During the inspection, copper cable belonging to Centlec was discovered. Representatives from Centlec, who were present at the scene, positively identified the recovered cable as their property.

The copper cable, weighing 421 kg and valued at approximately R58 000, will form part of the ongoing investigation.

A case in terms of the Criminal Matters Amendment Act 6 of 2015, which addresses tampering with essential infrastructure, as well as the Second-Hand Goods Act, is being investigated. The law requires scrap metal dealers to obtain identity documents and affidavits from sellers, which was complied with in this instance.

No arrests have been made at this stage, and investigations are continuing.
