An intelligence driven operation conducted by members attached to the Anti-Gang Unit led to the recovery of a firearm in Delft
On Thursday, 16 September 2025, information was operationalised, which led the members to a premises in Bliss Street, Delft South. They conducted a search of the premises and recovered a rusted 9mm Luger Parabellum firearm. A 37-year-old suspect was arrested for possession of an unlicensed firearm
The suspect will appear in the Bellville Magistrates court soon on the mentioned charges.
In an unrelated incident Gugulethu Crime Prevention Unit arrested a 43-year-old male at a petrol station on the corner of NY3A and NY1 in Gugulethu for possession of a prohibited firearm, illegal possession of ammunition, and possession of presumable stolen property.
The suspect was found with a 9mm Norinco pistol with a serial number filed off, nine rounds of ammunition, and the key to a white Mercedes Benz valued at R300,000. The vehicle’s number plate and license disc were tampered with, suggesting it may have been stolen. The arrest was part of the unit’s intensified patrols in the Gugulethu hotspot areas due to increased incidents of murder, hijacking, and extortion.
This arrest highlights the ongoing efforts of SAPS to combat crime in the precinct. The suspect will appear in the Athlone Magistrate’s Court once charged.
