Police leadership visited the family home of the slain off-duty police officer, Sergeant Tshepo Mokoena (39), in Grootvlei

Police leadership, led by the Acting Provincial Commissioner of Mpumalanga, Major General (Dr) Zeph Mkhwanazi on 21 September 2025, visited the family home of the slain off-duty police officer, Sergeant Tshepo Mokoena (39), in Grootvlei.

Major General Mkhwanazi, accompanied by the District Commissioner of Gert Sibande, Brigadier Wendy Mavuso, conveyed heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family. The leadership assured the family of the South Afrocan Police Service’s continued support, both emotionally and logistically, during this difficult time.

Major General Mkhwanazi and his entourage then proceeded to Volkrust, where they conducted a walk-through of the recently dismantled clandestine drug laboratory. They were joined by the MEC for Community Safety, Security and Liaison, Mr Jackie Macie, who received a comprehensive briefing on the illegal activities that had been taking place at the site.

MEC Macie commended the sterling work of the police and emphasised the importance of strong community-police partnerships, noting that the breakthrough was made possible by a vigilant community member who reported the activities to authorities.
