Vigilant members of Malmesbury Crime Prevention Unit arrested two males aged 26 and 27, for the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition on Sunday, 21 September 2025.
The members were busy with patrols in the Chatsworth area, when they noticed two males who acted suspicious when they noticed the police vehicle approaching. The members searched the males and found a 9mm Norinco pistol, with seven rounds of ammunition between the bushes where they were standing. The suspects were arrested and detained for the possession of a unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
They will appear in the Malmesbury Magistrates’ court today, 23 September 2025.
In an unrelated matter, members of the #AntiGangUnit searched a premises in Athry Walk, Hanover Park, on Monday and confiscated a NZ75 pistol with 14 rounds of ammunition which was hidden in a Wendy house. A 25-year-old female was arrested for the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
She will appear in the Athlone Magistrates’ court once charged.
Furthermore, members of #OperationShanela2 searched a premises in Athena Street, Eureka Estate, Ravensmead, where they found a 9mm pistol with ammunition hidden in the yard. No one was arrested and the investigation into the recovery is underway.
