PETRUS STEYN – The Petrus Steyn police successfully arrested three suspects, including a foreign national and two South Africans, during a waylay operation on Tuesday morning. This follows a community tip-off about planned cable theft from a farm in the area.
On Tuesday, 23 September 2025, at about 11:00, police acted swiftly on the information received and set up a waylay operation. Two suspects were arrested on the scene, while a third suspect was later traced and arrested in Mamafubedu location near Petrus Steyn. Additional stolen cable was also recovered.
Police discovered cables hidden under cut wood branches, weighing approximately 200 kilograms, with an estimated value of R200 000.00. A white Nissan bakkie and a chainsaw used in the commission of the crime were also confiscated.
The suspects, aged 36, 39 and 56, are expected to appear before the Petrus Steyn Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 26 September 2025, facing charges of damage to essential infrastructure.
Police urge farmers to remain vigilant of suspicious vehicles moving aimlessly on their farms and to continue reporting such activities. Increased patrols will also be maintained to curb cable theft.
