The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) Intervention Unit Officers, arrested two (2) male suspects aged twenty-three (23) and twenty-four (24 )years old, in Katlehong.
While patrolling the Moshoshoe section, Officers came across two(2) unknown males who were wearing South African National Defense Force (SANDF) hats. Officers immediately approached the duo trying to find out if they are working for Military, seeing that they are in civilian clothes. The officers established that the suspects are not members of the SANDF and the issue escalated as suspects started to threaten and swear at the police officers and resisting arrest.
The officers were able to arrest the suspects, facing charges of possession of Military Police uniform and resisting an arrest. They are expected to appear before the Palmridge Magistrate’s Court soon.
Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) warns civilians against wearing state uniforms due to security risk, legal penalties, and the potential to undermine public trust. Unauthorized use of military or police uniforms is illegal and can result to an arrest, fine or imprisonment.
