HEIDEDAL – Police diving units are continuing an intensive search at a quarry behind the Heidedal Mall for a man believed to have drowned a week ago.
The Bloemfontein Diving Unit, joined by colleagues from the Welkom Diving Unit, is hard at work trying to locate the possibly drowned 20-year-old male. All available resources have been deployed to assist in the operation, which is now in its seventh day.
The incident is alleged to have occurred on Thursday, 16 October 2025. The victim was with two companions who reportedly went to the quarry to swim. The 20-year-old is said to have jumped into the water, was quickly overwhelmed, and tragically drowned.
Heidedal police were called immediately and summoned the Bloemfontein Diving Unit. An intensive search commenced around the area where the victim was last seen but has so far yielded no results. The search operation still continues today, Thursday, 23 October 2025.
The SAPS strongly urges the community to refrain from using the quarry for swimming. The water is known to be dangerously deep and poses a severe risk to life.
