Members of the Maitland Flying Squad received information about a Volkswagen Polo, that was involved in a shooting incident in Manenberg, on Friday.
The vehicle was spotted and pulled over in Elsies River, and they stopped the vehicle on the corner of Viking Road and Showground Street, Elsies River. Upon searching the vehicle, the members found a 9mm pistol with ten rounds of ammunition under the driver side seat. The driver of the vehicle could not produce a firearm license and was subsequently arrested for the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.
The 50-year-old suspect will appear in the Goodwood Magistrates’ court on Monday.
Members of Caledon Public Order Police searched a premises in the Phumlani informal settlement, Grabouw, on Saturday morning, 25 October 2025, and arrested a 48-year-old male when they found a 9mm pistol with ammunition in the informal dwelling.
Once charged the suspect will appear in the Grabouw Magistrates’ court on the mentioned charges.
