The #SAPS Parkweg investigating team is requesting the public’s assistance in identifying and locating a person of interest who may assist in an ongoing investigation into an incident of ATM vandalism and malicious damage to property.
On Sunday, 18 January 2026, at approximately 01:20, an Automatic Teller Machine (ATM) alarm was activated at a shopping complex situated in Universitas, Bloemfontein. Members of private security along with Parkweg SAPS swiftly responded to the scene. Upon arrival, it was discovered that the ATM had been heavily vandalised.
No suspects were arrested at the scene. A case of malicious damage to property was subsequently opened for intensive investigation.
Following continuous investigative efforts, detectives successfully retrieved closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage from the property. The footage has revealed an image of a male individual who police believe can crucialy assist in advancing the investigation.
Police appeal to anyone who might recognise the male in the footage, or who may have any information regarding his whereabouts, to urgently contact the investigating officer, Sergeant Mokhantsho of the Parkweg Detectives, on 082 526 2736. Alternatively, members of the community can share information anonymously by calling the SAPS #CrimeStop hotline on 08600 10111, or by submitting a tip-off anonymously via the #MySAPSApp.
