ER24 paramedics had their hands full this morning after three separate taxi incidents were called through to the 084 124 emergency line.
The first accident, just before 8am, involved two taxis colliding head on into one another on the Tshepiso Road in Sharpville. It is not known what caused the accident, but one person was left deceased and another 29 people injured. Paramedics desperately tried to resuscitate the man on the scene, but he unfortunately succumbed to his injuries and was later pronounced deceased. Two women were in a critical condition, while two others were left with serious injuries. The remaining 25 patients all sustained minor injuries. All of the patients were treated accordingly, loaded into awaiting ambulances and transported to surrounding hospitals in the area.
Paramedics were then notified of a taxi that was on fire on Waterdal road in Sebokeng. When paramedics tried to get to the location, police had blocked off the road. It appeared that a taxi had been set alight and there were a number of bricks and rocks in the road. Fortunately, there had been no injuries on the scene thus far and paramedics were able to be rerouted to another accident.
The third incident, on Wessels Mota street in Lakeside, occurred shortly before 9am. The initial report came through as a large bus accident, but when paramedics arrived at the scene it had been a taxi that’s driver had lost control and rolled the vehicle. The 9 occupants of the vehicle were left with minor injuries only, and they were all taken per ambulance to nearby hospitals for further treatment.
