One man was killed and two others critically injured this afternoon when a truck collided with two light motor vehicles on the N1 10km outside of Worcester, Western Cape.
ER24 paramedics, along with Provincial Services, arrived on scene and found a large truck blocking the fast lane of the highway, its cargo of oil barrels spilled everywhere.
Paramedics assessed the patients, finding that the driver of the bakkie lay trapped inside his vehicle and had already succumbed to his injuries.
Both drivers of the light motor vehicle and truck lay trapped inside their vehicles. Provincial Services used the jaws-of-life equipment to free both patients.
Advanced life support was performed on the patients once they were freed and were thereafter transported to Worcester Hospital for urgent medical treatment.
The exact cause of the collision is not yet known.
