In a significant display of vigilance, members of the Anti-Gang Unit (AGU) successfully disrupted illicit drug activities in Eldorado Park this morning. During routine operations, AGU members noticed a male exhibiting suspicious behaviour as they approached. A consented search of the individual revealed fourteen (14) ziplock bags of suspected Cat drugs, six (6) ziplock bags of suspected crystal meth, and thirteen (13) half tablets of suspected mandrax concealed within a sling bag that he was carrying. The suspect was promptly arrested and taken to a local police station for detention.
In a separate but equally impactful operation this afternoon, the AGU team led by the Shift Commander, acted on credible information regarding drug sales at a residence along Cumming Road.
Upon arrival at the provided address, the AGU team arrested a male suspect found in possession of a substantial quantity of suspected crystal meth, alongside twenty-two (22) full, and seventy (70) halved tablets suspected to be mandrax.
As the AGU team continued their proactive measures, they also responded to information of an armed individual in the vicinity. The identified suspect was searched, leading to the discovery of an unlicensed firearm and fifteen (15) live rounds of ammunition. He was subsequently informed of his arrest for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition, as he could not produce a valid firearm license.
The seized firearm will undergo ballistic analysis to determine any links to previous crimes. All detained suspects are expected to appear before their respective courts soon.
AGU Commander Brigadier Maphoto commended the team’s efforts, highlighting the effectiveness of collaboration between the South African Police Service (SAPS) and the community. “It is through this partnership with concerned residents and informers that we can work towards eradicating illegal firearms and substances from our communities,” he stated.
The AGU remains committed to ensuring the safety and security of their communities, reinforcing our dedication to combatting crime through proactive and collaborative measures.
