The South African Motor Body Repairers’ Association (SAMBRA), a proud association of the Retail Motor Industry Organisation (RMI), is pleased to announce the appointment of Hilton van Breda as the new Area Representative for the Free State and Northern Cape.
Van Breda brings with him a wealth of experience spanning more than 25 years in the motor body repair and automotive refinishing sectors. He has held senior roles at several leading industry brands, including BASF and Chemspec, and most recently served as a senior technician and estimator in the Free State for RSB Automotive Refinishing. His in-depth technical knowledge, combined with a hands-on understanding of the daily operational challenges in the workshop environment, makes him a perfect fit for this important regional role.
Commenting on the appointment, Juan Hanekom, National Director of SAMBRA, says the move comes in direct response to growing requests from members in the region for increased on-the-ground support. “We are listening to our members and committed to strengthening our regional presence. Hilton is a well-known figure in the Free State, with deep ties to the industry and a solid reputation for integrity, professionalism and technical know-how. We believe he will bring tremendous value to our members, particularly in helping them navigate current industry challenges, stay informed on regulatory matters and benefit from SAMBRA’s broad network of resources.”
Van Breda says he is honoured to be taking up the position and is looking forward to engaging with members across the two provinces. “Having worked on both the technical and supplier sides of the industry, I have a strong appreciation for the unique pressures our repairers face – whether it’s skills shortages, access to quality products, or keeping up with the latest repair technologies. My goal is to be a consistent and approachable point of contact for members, helping to bridge any gaps between policy, practice and profitability.”
He adds that one of his immediate priorities will be to visit workshops across the Free State and Northern Cape to better understand their individual needs. “I want to ensure members feel supported and well-represented. I also want to bring practical value to their businesses – whether that’s through technical guidance, improved access to training or facilitating constructive conversations between workshops, insurers and suppliers.”
Hanekom concludes, “This appointment is another step forward in our strategy to ensure SAMBRA remains relevant, responsive and regionally active. We wish Hilton every success in his new role.”
