One suspect was shot and arrested while others escaped after a high-speed chase and shootout in Dutywa. Police also recovered a firearm and the vehicle used by the suspects.
Police received information about a suspicious bakkie allegedly involved in robbery that occurred at Keiskammahoek in the early hours on Wednesday, 07 May 2025. Members attached to the specialized units were quickly activated and on the N2 at Dutywa CBD, members spotted the vehicle (bakkie) and tried to stop it. The shootout ensued between the suspects and the police, which resulted in two suspects being fatally shot. During the search police recovered a Toyota bakkie and a firearm.
On investigation police gathered information which led them to Ncandu locality near Dutywa, where they found one suspect with gunshot wound on the leg. Police recovered another bakkie at the scene not far from the wounded suspect.
Police confiscated two vehicles (Toyota bakkies) and the firearm that will be sent for ballistic testing for further investigation. The injured suspect was arrested and taken to hospital under police guard. Police are still searching for the other suspects who escaped.
