The vigilance of Maitland Flying Squad members whilst on duty resulted in the arrest of two adult males for business robbery and possession of imitation firearms on Saturday night, 17 May 2025.
The members spotted a Kia Picanto, which fitted the description of a vehicle used in a business robbery in Diep River area.
When the suspects saw the police members approaching, they chased away from them. The members managed to pull over the vehicle during which the suspects jumped out and ran but were apprehended. Upon searching them, the members found two imitation firearms in their possession. They were arrested and detained at Diep River SAPS, and the vehicle was handed in as exhibit as it was used in the commission of a crime. Once charged, the suspects are expected to make their court appearance in the Wynberg Magistrates’ court on the mentioned charge.
In an unrelated matter, on 16 May 2025 at about 03:00, members of Public Order Police arrested a 39 year old male for dealing in dagga. The members were deployed in the Milnerton policing area when they received information of a person dealing in dagga at a premises in Khumbulani Street, Du Noon in Milnerton.
Acting on this information, the members proceeded to the mentioned address. On arrival, they conducted a search which uncovered 42 dagga cigarettes, five medium bags containing dagga, seven containers, 429 sachets dagga, and an undisclosed amount of cash believed to be the proceeds of crime. The dagga and cash were seized as exhibits.
The suspect will appear in the Cape Town Magistrates’ court on Monday, 19 May 2025, on the mentioned charge.
