Two Thailand nationals, a male and a female aged (21) and (25) are due to appear before the Kempton Park Magistrates Court on Friday, 30 May 2025 for contravening the Drugs and Drug trafficking Act, Act 140 of 1992.
On Wednesday, 28 May 2025, members of the Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation based in Germiston followed up information about two individuals who were due to land at O.R Tambo International Airport that evening from Thailand suspected to be carrying drugs. Upon landing members identified and approached the two travellers and conducted a search, where they discovered 132 bags of compressed cannabis weighing 116kg in four of their luggage bags with an estimated value of about R500 000. The pair was arrested for contravention of the Drugs and Drug Trafficking Act, Act 140 of 1992 and the drugs were seized.
Both suspects are expected to make their first appearance before the Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 30 May 2025.
