As the country commemorate the child protection week which is observed annually, the police made a gruesome discovery of the body of a child suspected to be of a two-year-old Kutlwano Shalaba who went missing last year November.
The toddler was initially reported missing by her mother but during investigations, the police uncovered that the mother was actually involved in the disappearance of her child. She was arrested and has since been behind bars with bail being opposed.
A second suspect, a man believed to be a sangoma was arrested yesterday, 29 May 2025 in connection to the disappearance of Kutlwano and during preliminary investigations, he led the police to a shallow grave at Waterpan road near R28, Bekkersdal where the remains of a toddler were discovered. The remains are suspected to be of Kutlwano but a DNA analysis will be performed to determine the identity of the corpse.
The mother and the Sangoma will appear before the Vanderbiljpark Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 02 June 2025, to answer on charges of murder and human trafficking.
