Suspects in court today, 30 May 2025 after they were arrested by Ngqayi (KatKop) detectives in unrelated cases on 28 May 2025 for possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.
In the first incident the members followed up on information at Magedla locality where the identified person’s premises was searched and an unlicensed firearm with ammunition was found. The 65-year-old suspect was arrested and the 9mm pistol was confiscated by police.
In the second incident, premises at the same locality were also searched and an unlicensed 9mm pistol with ammunition was found. The 67-year-old suspect was arrested and the 9mm firearm and ammunition was then confiscated.
Both firearms will be sent for ballistic testing for possible linkage to crimes in the Ngqayi area.
The suspects will appear before the Mount Fletcher Magistrate’s Court on 30 May 2025 on charges of possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.
The Joe Gqabi District Commissioner Major General Lindelwa Vellem applauded the detectives on the arrests and confiscations of the unlicensed firearms and ammunition before it could be used for any other criminal conduct.
