At approximately 07:58, SCP Security received a report from a local resident who witnessed suspicious individuals entering a manhole at the corner of Hoover Street and Arkansas Avenue in Berario.
The suspects were dropped off by a brown bakkie marked with construction stripes on the back.
SCP Security Reaction Officers responded swiftly to the scene. Upon arrival, officers caught the four suspects red-handed inside the manhole. The suspects were immediately apprehended as they attempted to steal cables.
Fortunately, no further damage was caused inside the manhole. Fairlands SAPS was contacted to assist with opening a case against the suspects.
Residents in the area have reported similar incidents in recent weeks, indicating a recurring pattern of cable theft attempts. In response, SCP Security has implemented high-visibility patrols throughout Berario to ensure ongoing safety and to deter further criminal activity.
