The police in Welkom is appealing to the community for information following an armed robbery of a courier truck that occurred on Wednesday, 18 December 2024.
At approximately 10:00, a courier truck driver was in the process of delivering goods in the Welkom area when his vehicle was intercepted by a white VW Polo without registration numbers. An unknown male, dressed in traffic official’s uniform, exited the Polo and approached the courier truck.
Two additional suspects then emerged, surprising the victim and forcing their way into the truck’s cabin, effectively trapping the driver. The suspects proceeded to drive the courier truck to the Thuhloane graveyard, where an H1 Hyundai minibus was waiting. The perpetrators then offloaded the cargo from the courier truck into the minibus.
One of the suspects involved in the robbery was allegedly wearing navy blue shorts and a red t-shirt.
