Max Sirena and the Luna Rossa team are taking part in the historical re-enactment of the 1000 Miglia aboard a splendid 1956 Alfa Romeo 1900 Super Sprint, belonging to the priceless Stellantis Heritage collection, usually on display at the Alfa Romeo Historical Museum in Arese.
The 2025 edition of the 1000 Miglia is the ideal stage for the dynamic public debut of the new 33 Stradale. Like the 1900 in racing, this Italian masterpiece is produced in a limited series with Carrozzeria Touring Superleggera.
Alongside the vintage car, the global Italian brand is deploying the current line-up as a Support Car, including the Tonale C-SUV, the brand-new Junior Q4 Ibrida and the gritty Giulia Quadrifoglio Super Sport, a tribute to the brand’s first victory at the historic 1000 Miglia.
On June 17, the 43rd edition of the “1000 Miglia” will kick off from Brescia, to return there on June 21. In the famous words of Enzo Ferrari, the “most beautiful race in the world” will visit some of the most evocative locations in Italy. Like always part race and part adventure, this year’s 1000 Miglia will see more than 400 vintage cars from 29 countries taking part. In particular, this year’s route of about 1900 kilometers winds along a “figure-of-eight” inspired by that of the first 12 editions of the 1000 Miglia speed race.
The Alfa Romeo name has been inextricably linked to the 1000 Miglia since its early days, having racked up 11 victories between 1928 and 1957, in a record that testifies to the technical and sporting excellence of the Biscione brand. In particular, the 1956 Alfa Romeo 1900 Super Sprint stands out on the starting grid, the sports coupé favored by gentleman drivers of the 1950s, belonging to the priceless Stellantis Heritage collection, usually on display at the Alfa Romeo Historical Museum in Arese. It is driven by the Luna Rossa team, led by Max Sirena, Skipper and Team Director of Luna Rossa.
The participation of the Luna Rossa team in the 1000 Miglia, alongside Alfa Romeo, reinforces the union between two Italian icons united by the same values: the pursuit of technical perfection, the passion for challenge, and the desire to represent the excellence of Italian talent and creativity around the world. The announcement of the special crew at the wheel of the 1900 Super Sprint seals the strategic partnership between the two brands, recently launched with an evocative video link, ahead of the 2027 America’s Cup – the most important sailing competition in the world – to be held in Italy for the first time, in the iconic setting of the Bay of Naples. And it is no coincidence that Alfa Romeo and Luna Rossa meet along the 1000 Miglia, as both names are linked to legendary events that represent the absolute pinnacle in their respective worlds – motor racing and sailing – where team spirit and unwavering determination are needed to face the most ambitious challenges. Then as now, these two outstanding Italian undertakings are together, united by the same mission, to carry on a tradition of boldness, innovation and Italian style.
1956 Alfa Romeo 1900 Super Sprint
The Alfa Romeo to be driven at the event by the Luna Rossa team is an elegant coupé with bodywork by Touring that represents the “gran turismo” class of the 20th century, “the family car that wins races” in the words of the claim that made its fame in the 1950s. Based on the short version chassis of the 1900 sedan, it is fitted with a 2-liter 4-cylinder engine with Alfa Romeo’s characteristic twin camshaft that delivers an output of 115 hp at 5500 rpm. In the 1950s, it was customary for the great Italian designers to buy a mechanized chassis from Alfa Romeo, complementing it with bodywork designed and produced in-house. The Milan Touring workshop therefore did so, producing 858 models of this final series of the 1900 Sprint between 1955 and ’58. The 1900 Super Sprint was considered by the drivers and private teams of the time as the right car to achieve victory in its class: its road holding, speed, and reliability made it a winner mainly in the Touring class.
Along the route of the 1000 Miglia, the priceless vintage car will be accompanied by the latest additions to the brand, as a Support Car. In particular, the brand of noble Italian sportiness since 1910 is providing a gritty Giulia Quadrifoglio Super Sport, the special limited series dedicated to the brand’s first victory at the 1000 Miglia. Alongside it, an Alfa Romeo Tonale, the C-SUV that marked the brand’s entry into the era of electrification and recently exceeded the milestone of 100,000 units produced at the Stellantis plant in Pomigliano d’Arco, a symbol of Italian manufacturing excellence.
Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale makes its dynamic public debut
All the spotlights will be on the New 33 Stradale, making its public debut for the first time. The custom-built car produced in only 33 models represents the return of the legendary 33 Stradale, an icon of the 1960s, reputed by many to be one of the most beautiful cars of all time, and derived directly from the Tipo 33 – once a big name in world motorsport. It should be noted that, just like the 1900 Super Sprint in the race, the Biscione brand’s new custom-built car also avails itself of the contribution of Milan’s Carrozzeria Touring Superleggera, through a one-off process anywhere in the world that combines the utmost in artisanship and innovation. The current and heritage line-ups therefore blend into an ideal bridge between past and present in the name of unmistakable Italian style.
The big name along the 1000 Miglia route in 2025 will also be the Alfa Romeo Junior Q4 Ibrida, the Biscione brand’s new compact sports car that represents its entry into the premium B-segment. Modern, agile and high-tech, the Junior stands out for its assertive style and driving dynamics that embody the authentic Alfa Romeo spirit. The Q4 version, equipped with Q4 all-wheel drive with automated rear-wheel drive management, is the only one in its segment to offer this configuration, to guarantee traction, safety and driving pleasure on any type of route.
Finally, remember that the 2025 edition of the 1000 Miglia coincides with a historical anniversary of great importance for Alfa Romeo: 95 years ago, Tazio Nuvolari and Giovanni Battista Guidotti triumphed at the 1000 Miglia aboard the Alfa Romeo 6C 1750. It was Nuvolari’s first overall victory in the “most beautiful race in the world” and, above all, the first time an average of 100 km/h was exceeded across the entire route, an even more daring and memorable feat if you consider the dirt roads of the time.
On the roads of the 1000 Miglia or in the waves of the America’s Cup, Alfa Romeo and Luna Rossa are racing side by side towards the future, driven by the same attitude to excel, innovate and proudly represent Italy in the most iconic and competitive contexts in the world. A challenge that goes beyond the boundaries of sport and becomes a story of identity and vision, demonstrating that innovation and tradition can go hand in hand, guided by the same passion for beauty, technique and performance. This is how Italy continues to inspire the world.
