Observant members of Operation Shanela arrested a 23-year-old male for the unlawful possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition on Wednesday, 11 June 2025 at about 12:25.
The members were busy with high density and crime prevention patrols in the Mfuleni policing area to quell gun violence when they saw a suspicious man in Xwayi Street, Driftsands. They approached and searched him upon which they found a 9mm pistol with seven rounds of ammunition in his possession. The suspect could not produce a valid license as token of lawful ownership. He was arrested for the unlawful possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
The suspect will appear in the Blue Downs Magistrates’ Court on the mentioned charge, soon.
