Operation Shanela 2 commenced on Thursday, 3 July 2025, at 14:00, involving Visible Policing (VISPOL), detectives, specialized units, and external stakeholders. The operation aimed to intensify visibility and law enforcement presence in high-crime areas by deploying additional personnel on the ground. Key objectives included crime prevention and the apprehension of suspects wanted for serious and violent offenses.
In total 40 suspects were arrested and detained. The arrests included suspects wanted for attempted murder, assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, possession of drugs, robbery, housebreaking, possession of suspected stolen property, domestic violence, theft, theft of motor vehicle as well as other crimes.
Members also arrested suspects for dealing in drugs. The following drugs were confiscated: 4 bankies cocaine, 24 mandrax tablets, 5 half mandrax tablets, 41 bankies tik, 55 zolle dagga, 4 bankies dagga, 9 packets of 5gr tik, 2 packets of 50gr Tik and an undisclosed amount of cash.
All the arrested suspects will appear in their respective courts soon.
The Nelson Mandela Bay District Commissioner Maj Gen Vuyisile Ncata commended the commitment and determination of the law enforcement mebera across the metro. “These operations will continue until our objectives of ensuring that the community are and feel safe,” remarked Maj Gen Ncata.
“Due to the commitment and dedication of this team, suspects involved in criminal activities were traced and arrested,” added Maj Gen Ncata.
