The swift response by members of Postmasburg FLASH, reacting to a complaint at the local mine on Wednesday morning, 02 July 2025 where copper cables were allegedly cut and stolen was commended by the management in the ZF Mgcawu District.
The members, in conjunction with Thornburn Microchip Security of Kolomela Mine, responded to the complaint, and upon arrival, two male suspects fled on foot.
The team apprehended the two 30-year-old men who were found in possession of a backpack containing copper and hacksaws.
Preliminary investigation led the team to a location where the police discovered mixed burned copper, copper coils, and Tait hand radios belonging to Kolomela Mine with a total value of R170 000-00. They also confiscated tools that were suspected to be used in the commission of crime.
A stern warning is sent to criminals who tampers with or damages essential infrastructure, as it has severe economic implications and repercussions.
The police will continue unabated with disruptive actions to root out such crimes and bring perpetrators thereof to justice.
