An intelligence-driven operation by the deployed NIU team in Flagstaff on Sunday, 06 July 2025 at about 01:00 near Mafadobo locality, Nonkonyana A/A led to the arrest of four male suspects aged between 20 and 59 for possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.
As the four males proceeded to town to carry out alleged planned business robbery, police intercepted them along R61 and upon searching their vehicle, an AK 47 rifle (erased serial number) and a 9 mm pistol (intact serial number) with ammunition were found in their vehicle. All four suspects were arrested and charged for unlawful possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.
They are appearing before Flagstaff Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 07 July 2025 facing their charges.
The OR Tambo District Commissioner, Major General Norman Modishana commended police for their commitment to fight crime in the district as yet more unlicensed firearms have been removed from the streets of OR Tambo.
