WESTBURY – In the early morning hours of Tuesday, 15 July 2025, the Anti-Gang Unit (AGU) arrested a 26-year-old man for house robbery and possession of suspected stolen property at Perth Road in Westbury.
The suspect attempted to evade the AGU members but was apprehended with the invaluable assistance of local community members. Upon his arrest, the suspect was found in possession of an instrument resembling a firearm, a leg holster, and a laptop.
While at the scene, a male victim approached AGU members, reporting a recent house robbery in which he was threatened with a firearm and had his laptop, cellphone, and speaker stolen. The victim was able to positively identify the arrested suspect as one of the individuals involved in the robbery, leading to a swift and coordinated response from the vigilant AGU team.
Brigadier Maphoto, the AGU commander, praised the quick reaction by members and the cooperation displayed community members in ensuring the suspect’s apprehension. “This incident highlights the importance of collaboration between the South African Police Service (SAPS) and the community. Together, we can effectively combat crime and bring those who threaten our safety to justice,” he stated.
The AGU urges all members of the community to remain vigilant and report any suspicious and illegal activities to our SAPS Crime Stop Hotline on 08600 10111, or alternatively downloading the MySAPS App onto a smart device, reinforcing the message that crime prevention is a shared responsibility.
