WESTERN CAPE – Efforts to restore law and order in Elsies River led to the arrest of a suspect when he was caught with a firearm in his possession on Tuesday.
While conducting stop and search operations in The Range, members of the Elsies River Crime Prevention Unit spotted two men standing behind Kroondal Court. One of the men attempted to flee as they approached. When the members arrested and searched him, they discovered that he had four rounds of ammunition and a 9mm handgun without a serial number. He was taken into custody for unlawfully possessing a gun and ammunition.
The suspect is due to appear in the Goodwood Magistrates’ Court once he has been charged.
In an unrelated matter, members of Gugulethu police arrested a 21-year-old male for the possession of a rifle with ammunition. The members received information about three males who are busy extorting shops in NY63 and a description of the suspects were given. The suspects were spotted and the members gave chase. One of the suspects was apprehended with the rifle without a serial number and ammunition. He faces charges for the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.
He is due to appear in the Athlone Magistrates’ Court once he has been charged.
